It gives me great pleasure as the new Captain of the Forex Ireland Golf Society to welcome you all to the 2013 golf season.
I hope those of you who participated in last year’s events will join us again this year. I also strongly encourage those of you whom we haven’t seen for a while and potential new members to come along and play one or all of our outings in 2013. Once again we have endeavoured to provide a program of outings at the highest quality courses for the best value possible.
Undoubtedly the highlight of the year will be our charity event at the Seve Ballesteros designed, The Heritage, Co Laois on June 7-9th. The monies raised at this event for deserving charitable causes continues to amaze everyone. Last year, we were lucky enough to raise approximately €30k with Straight Ahead Ireland, being the main beneficiary. By all accounts last year’s weekend was the most enjoyable for some years. So if you haven’t attended recently, please do whatever you can to get a team together for June. I can assure you won’t be disappointed. More details on this event will follow in the next few weeks.
The list of outings for the coming year is as follows –
|Wednesday May 1st||Luttrellstown for €20||Kindly Sponsored by Bank of Montreal|
|Monday May 27th||Milltown for €30||Kindly Sponsored by Davy|
|Thursday July 4th||Carton House for €40||Kindly Sponsored by Danske Markets|
|Monday Aug 26th||Royal Dublin for €40||Kindly Sponsored by Thomson Reuters|
The recent survey suggested a strong desire for good quality golf courses which are located close to Dublin. We believe the above list more than ticks that box and represents excellent value for money whilst also demonstrating that we have listened to you, the members. Please note the very competitive pricing offered for these events with significant subsidies being provided by FIGS with the dual aim of reducing the existing surplus and attracting new members. I would also like to point out that the Irish Open is on the weekend before our outing in Carton House so the Monty course should be in excellent condition.
The membership fee for 2013 remains at €40.00. We are looking to attract new members to the society this year so I am asking all existing members to canvass any colleagues that, with a little bit of persuasion, would be eager to get involved. Please forward annual subscriptions to Bryan Conway at your earliest convenience. Bryan can be contacted at bryan.conway[at]barclayscapital.com
We will again be running a golfer of the year competition with the winner being the player with the highest average score over his / her 3 best outings.
I would like to thank our sponsors for the year, Danske Markets, Davy, Bank of Montreal and Thomson Reuters for their continued support. I wish you all the very best for 2013 and I look forward to seeing you throughout the year and making 2013 another excellent year.
